British actor Ray Winstone recently celebrated forty years in the industry, marking him as one of the UK’s most prolific actors playing some of cinema’s most iconic roles.

Ray Winstone received his first BAFTA nomination - Most Promising Newcomer - for his theatrical film debut in That Summer! in 1980. In the intervening decades he has starred in films spanning a range of genres, from indie films such as, most recently, Jawbone and The Legend of Barney Thompson to Hollywood blockbusters: The Sweeney, Snow White & the Huntsman, The Departed, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Noah, Beowolf, Cold Mountain, King Arthur, Breaking & Entering; British cult classics including Quadrophenia, Nil By Mouth (for which he received his second BAFTA nomination - for Actor in a Leading Role - in 1998), The War Zone and Sexy Beast; and he has voiced characters in family favourites The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Rango. These roles have seen Winstone work with a host of acclaimed directors including Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Minghella and Ken Loach.

Winstone first made an impact in 1977 playing a young offender in the controversial television drama Scum. He has appeared in a multitude of high-end British television dramas and popular series over the years, including ITV’s The Trials of Jimmy Rose, the BAFTA-winning Great Expectations, Emmy-winning Henry VIII and BAFTA-nominated Births Marriages and Deaths. In 2006 he gained an Emmy for Best Performance for his lead role in ITV’s Vincent and the ‘Richard Harris Award’ for outstanding contribution at the British Independent Film Awards.

Ray Winstone’s forthcoming roles include Season 2 of Ice for Fuqua Films/Entertainment One and King of Thieves for Working Title alongside Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Michael Gambon and Tom Courtney which is due for release later this year.
